Indie Night ON DEMAND interviews Micaa Thomas on her film Our House Is On Fire.

As a senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) majoring in Visual Effects (VFX), Micaa; served as Director, Compositor, and Lighter of “Our House is On Fire,” a short film highlighting the impact of climate change caused by human activity. The film consists of 26 young talented artists within the VFXs' Department with skill sets in simulations, environment, texture, sound, and motion media design. Greta Thunberg’s speech from Ted Talk, “The Disarming Case to Act Right Now on Climate Change” is parallel to her Call-to-Action through the use of VFX. As the director, Almy Bartis was chosen to be the film’s sponsor due to her speech at New York City’s Climate Strike with Greta Thunberg and her innate passion for research, education, and the climate crisis which affects the economy and ultimately the stability of our world. When Micaa is not directing, lighting or compositing, she enjoys traveling and has volunteered at SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, California, and in Brisbane, Australia. She also enjoys traveling and supporting the First Tee and March of Dimes’ sponsored events. Micaa loves to play competitive golf. She has been playing for 12 years and was inducted into the African American Golfer’s Hall of Fame. At SCAD Atlanta, she was a four-year member of the SCAD Women’s Golf Team and was the only member of SCAD Atlanta to compete at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Golf Championship for 4 consecutive years.
